The growth of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), or drones, has been challenging for higher education. With constantly changing regulations and an ever-increasing list of use cases, it is hard to stay up-to-date on compliance while managing the risks and exposures drones bring. This session, designed for beginners, will show how to safely manage and utilize drones while balancing risks and liability. Attendees will work in small groups on real-world examples and discuss the challenges presented by each situation.

Objectives

+ Obtain an understanding of UAS regulations as they relate to higher education
+ Be able to quickly identify drone risks and exposures without being an expert
+ Use the University of California System’s ERM approach to develop resilient policies and procedures for mitigating UAS risks

Moderator: Mark J. Logel, University of Southern Indiana
Track: Higher Education Risk
Core Competency: Organizational Engagement
